Competitiveness of Metropolitan Regions - Developing the metropolitan region of FrankfurtRheinMain and learning from the best

On 16 May 2011 the conference on “Competitiveness of Metropolitan Regions” is the opening event of this year’s FRANKFURT GLOBAL BUSINESS WEEK.

A strong and diversified economy relies on a strong and attractive region which will help to attract talents in the future. Leading representatives from business and politics will discuss a wide range of current issues on how to further proceed regarding the regional governance and sustainable development of the metropolitan region of FrankfurtRheinMain.

In addition, representatives from the European metropolitan areas Ile-de-France, Amsterdam, and Warsaw will present the goals of their respective regions, exchange ideas and experiences regarding sustainable regional governance.

Participants will gain insights for the further strategic positioning of the metropolitan region of FrankfurtRheinMain.

Among the speakers are Tarek Al-Wazir, MdL (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN), Uwe Becker (Stadt Frankfurt am Main), Michael Boddenberg, MdL (Hessischer Minister für Bundesangelegenheiten und Bevollmächtigter des Landes beim Bund), Jörg-Uwe Hahn, MdL (Hessischer Minister der Justiz, für Integration und Europa), Heiko Kasseckert (Regionalverband FrankfurtRheinMain; FrankfurtRheinMain - Verein zur Förderung der Standortentwicklung e.V.), Dr. Mathias Müller (Industrie- und Handelskammer Frankfurt am Main), Dr. h.c. Petra Roth (Oberbürgermeisterin, Stadt Frankfurt am Main), and Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel, MdL (SPD Hessen).
